Ipod rant

Seriously. (I typed this and thought of Grays Anatomy- I'm trained like a little consumer monkey).

So yeah, I am one of those nonstop people most of the time. I also tend towards insomnia and believe it might have to do with previous sentence. So I ipod at bedtime (if I'm not reading). I have a really difficult time just laying down and falling asleep. Partly because I don't believe I will fall asleep unless really tired or not stressed about something. Mostly because I can't fall asleep until several conditions are met: 1. not stressed out and obsessing over things to do and what I didn't do and what I want to do, 2. must be warm. Feet most importantly. I own many a slipper sock that I wear to bed for this reason. I've even set pots/pans on the stove to warm up and then stuck them in the foot of the bed so I'd have warm feet. Purchased a "warming" (cheaper then a "heating") blanket. DOA. Didn't bother to get a new one, 3. It usually takes me a while to just chill and fall asleep in under 30 minutes about 80% of the time.

So as I said before... I usually read (that keeps me up much later), or ipod to sleep. Now I like ipoding to sleep because I podcast. So if I'm not going to fall alseep for the next 30 minutes, why not listen to something interesting or learn something, right? Yes, I'm aware that this is a self destructive cycle however you know that when you're really tired, PBS or NPR or any informative newsy show will eventually put you to sleep. Especially the reoprters/anchors/talking voices are so damn good at controlling their tone and inflection so that it has this nice soothing effect... getting tired just typing about it.

So... here's my problem. I fucking hate the syncing of my podcasts to my ipod. Usually I do a manual sync but last my husband did the sync for me and set it back to manual... which I wouldn't mind IF

I COULD FIGURE OUT WHICH SYNC OPTION I WANT!!!

Seriously?!?!?! What in god's name is user friendly or intuitive between the choices of:
Sync #...
most recent
most recent unplayed
most recent new?

Logically, if it's new, wouldn't it be recent? and if it's unplayed, doesn't that count as new? So don't I want all fucking 3?!?!?!?! (oh yeah, and why would I want least of anything? least recent? least recent unplayed, least recent new?)

What I want that I can't seem to translate to the freaking itunes is- I want new podcasts that haven't been played and are recent. New podcasts- new from the source, new to me, new to itunes- they all work! Unplayed- well yes, I do prefer not to keep listening to the same podcasts over and over- usually once works for me and then I'm done (and no, I don't want to delete the podcasts in itunes to prevent this from happening- this is what computer programming is for!).
Recent- well yes, I'd like to listen to things that were made, you know, after the advent of computers... sometimes I download an interesting podcast from a while back- but again- it's new to me so therefore it would be recent in my life. Why are the options: just plain recent, recent yet unplayed, recent yet new. I'm sorry- am I missing a built in joke to the program?

And then like a lowly dweeby technophobe or novice- I enter the dark world of help. Fucking idiots wrote the damn thing- under section of SYNC what do they have? Well 1. plug your device into the thing called computer and hit pretty sync button or 2. you can manually sync.

What about a roadmap for these obscure options when you auto sync and need to conserve room?!!?
Again- what about intuitive and user friendly? How about a little guide to the right that shows you what WOULD be included if you selected option A, B or C?

For christs sake. or cry safe. or jesus christ. or beans and rice.

Krieky!

PS, yes, I mostly listen to NPR on my ipod at bedtime. Few other uses- music on my blackberry which uses the same iphone earbuds negates having to carry cell and music player both. Oh yeah, if I want to track my running distance (thanks Nike+iPod), but that happens little these days...
